What is Meta-Coaching |
What is Meta-Coaching™?
Meta-Coaching is by its very nature a field or
discipline that works at a higher (or “meta”) position to
the client and the client's experience. Whilst a sports
coach does not have to be an expert in the sport himself,
the coach does have to know how to get the best out of the
player. In the same way a Meta-Coach is an expert in
structure and the facilitation process, rather than in
content. The client is his or her own best expert in
content.
The Meta-Coach is
trained in the cognitive sciences, using the frameworks of
Neuro Linguistic Programming (the model of human
communication and functioning which describes how to run our
own brain and manage our own states) and Neuro-Semantics
(the levels of mind-body-emotion as a systemic process).
The Meta-Coach, as a change agent, works with and at the
meta-level of the processes regarding how we humans
transform and develop.
Why is it Called Meta-Coaching™?
This is mostly because Meta-Coaches work
from higher or meta-levels. The Meta-Coaching methodology
comprises seven meta-models that form the systematic
framework of Meta-Coaching.
-
Meta-Coaching is meta to content.
In coaching you at a meta-level, the Meta-Coach works with
you, as the client from the level of structure and
process, about your content.
As his/her expertise is in process rather than content,
your Meta-Coach focuses on your Inner Game. This means
that the dialogue and relationship facilitated with you
empowers you to run your own brain, access your resources,
and achieve your highest outcomes.
-
Meta-Coaching works meta to resources
to empower you.
Your Meta-Coach does not teach, train, or give advice
because he/she assumes that you have the necessary
internal resources to succeed. Instead he/she uses models
and processes to mobilise your own internal and external
resources. Coaching that empowers people accesses and
develops their resources.
-
This empowers you to:
- think for yourself and run your own brain
- solve your own problems as you develop critical thinking
skills
- develop creativity to innovate new things
- own responsibility for your actions and becoming
proactive in taking the initiative
- deal with problems when they first appear
- develop your own strengths
-
Meta-Coaching takes performance to a
higher level
In coaching, performance is "Job One." In
Meta-Coaching
your coach works to enhance performance, together with
achievements, and results.
Your Meta-Coach works with you at a meta-level for more
skilled performance in an area of expertise in the
pursuits of self-mastery or within your career; whether it
be relative to customer service, sales, planning, etc.
It's about becoming masterful in mind, emotion, body, and
spirit. This is the Outer Game.
-
Meta-Coaching is transformational as it
transcends performance
Your Meta-Coach facilitates your desire for
transformation. Yet in doing so, your Meta-Coach is
simultaneously being affected. Well-known Australian
Master Meta-Coach, Michelle Duval says, "In Meta-Coaching we
are affected, influenced, and changed". The Meta-Coach
works as a catalyst who forges productive confrontations
and uses meta-questions for expanding your consciousness.
This is the Inner Game, the game of our frames.
The Meta-Coach operates from his or her own personal
genius (an intense focused state) so that he/she can more
effectively elicit and facilitate your personal genius in
your given area of pursuit.
-
Meta-Coaching works holistically with
your system.
By uniting the multiple intelligences of IQ, emotional
intelligence (EQ), and spiritual intelligence (SQ), the
Meta-Coach coaches your entire mind-body-emotion-spirit
system as a systemic whole. This is done to elicit the
synergy of your greater intelligence, namely, wisdom.
Meta-Coaching works with your entire mind-body-emotion
system as a whole, using the “Matrix Model” as a way to
think and work systemically. The Matrix Model unites
cognitive psychology with developmental and
self-actualisation psychology.
-
Meta-Coaching focuses primarily on
relationships
Meta-Coaching involves an ongoing partnership that
facilitates you to produce fulfilling results in your
personal and professional lives. Master Meta-Coach Cheryl
Gilroy says, "Through the process of Meta-Coaching, you deepen
your learning, improve your performance, and enhance your
quality of life." Through collaboration, you and your
coach co-create a new Inner Game that manifests itself in
your new Outer Game.
-
Meta-Coaching coaches to your
meta-programmes
Your Meta-Coach expands your full range of perception by
identifying and Meta-Coaching to your meta-programmes (that is
the way you perceive information). Given the pervasive
influence of our meta-programmes as perceptual filters,
Meta-Coaching to meta-programmes and thinking styles enables
your Meta-Coach to quickly identify the heart of things
where the leverage for change occurs.
The Neuro-Semantic Vision for Meta-Coaching
The models we have in Neuro-Semantics are
especially designed to enable us to explore the dynamic
structure of experience, especially the structure of
excellence. These enable us to take Meta-Coaching to a whole new
level of expertise. In Meta-Coaching our vision is:
-
Facilitating excellence in clients and
enabling them to discover the wonder and magic of taking
charge of their lives
-
Operating as a process expert to the
client's content , of which he or she is the expert
-
Profiling clients to quickly assess and
coach to the structure so that we know (and can
articulate) what to do when, with whom, and why
-
Facilitating the mapping of new
strategies for skills, experiences, and top performances
-
Co-inventing through language and
patterns the right solution with the client in a real-time
dialogue
-
Facilitating a new use of language for
precision (the Meta-Model) and for induction (the hypnotic
language patterns of Meta-States, the Meta-Questions,
Mind-Lines etc)
-
Modelling cutting edge experiences of
high performance and modelling the client's unique way of
replicating that
-
Inventing new patterns through ruthless
compassion and conversation so that coach and client
co-create new meanings, frames, and beliefs
-
Using the Matrix of the client's frames
to invite reorganisations that transformation the client's
experiences.
-
Having lots of fun with the client in
the process, building a relationship of respect and
honour, and operating from a sense of abundance of what
the client brings to the encounter
-
Believing in releasing the genius and
potentials within each client
-
Becoming the most effective coaches in
the field of Professional coaching
