Sometimes
more than one type of intervention is necessary to produce
the best and most sustainable results.
Training is
excellent for teaching new skills and attitudes. Employees
usually have the very best intentions of fully implementing
their new knowledge into the work place at the on their
return to the office. To the best of their ability, they do
this. Sometimes however they are not sure quite how to
integrate their new knowledge into an exisiting situation.
At other times, the first time after their return that they
encounter a stressful situation, they default back to their
old behaviour. Very often, a great deal of what they learnt
on training is forgotten or disregarded within the space of
a few weeks.
Completing the training intervention with short-term
appropriate mentoring and/or Meta-Coaching interventions
afterwards ensures that the employees are able to fully
integrate their new knowledge into their specific working
environments. Mentoring interventions take place in the
workplace on a one-to-one “show-do” basis with the mentor
and the employee or team. Meta-Coaching interventions on the
other hand take place outside the workplace. Through
Meta-Coaching the employee or team is able to establish for
themselves the best means of sustainably implementing the
new knowledge into the workplace environment for the maximum
benefit .
With
both interventions, new habits and skills are built, and the
full benefits of the training are measurable by both
employees and employer.
