Corporate and Business Meta-Coaching |
You’re a
CEO, a Director, member of the Executive Committee or a
Business Owner. You’re an
achiever – ambitious, determined, focused, and highly
competent. You set high standards for yourself and the
people who work with and for you. You’re well regarded and
very good at most of what you do. And yet there’s …
-
The diversity of the management team,
which just cannot pull together
-
The colleague you cannot see eye to eye
with – and you know it’s impacting on your own
performance
-
The senior members of the management
team who are technically highly competent, but sadly
lacking in the softer skills required to manage people
effectively
-
The department you’re doing your very
best to turn around, and yet they keep letting you down
-
The merger or downsizing you’re
considering, which could be exactly what your company
needs for its future success - or maybe not
-
The unexpected turn in the economy
which has had a drastic impact on your business and
demoralised your people
-
The projects or administrative
functions that try as you might, you just don’t seem to be
able to get down to
-
The niggling issue with a difficult
client that you just cannot seem to be able to resolve
-
The long hours you’re putting in to
meet tight deadlines, the resulting impact on your
personal life or family – and that’s before you even start
to try to find time to fit in any exercise
-
Nobody you can really speak to when you
need to clarify your thoughts and explore new ideas
You’re young, ambitious, and it’s time to
start moving up the corporate ladder.
You’ve been identified for a leadership position and a
bright future lies ahead. You are technically competent,
and know you have what it takes to make an excellent leader,
and yet …
-
How do you make the psychological
transition into leadership?
-
How do you apply the management skills
you’ve learnt about in your training?
-
Why would other people look up to you
and support you?
-
What will make your team highly
effective?
-
What will make your peers respect and
admire you?
Your company is facing significant
change. The leadership is
concerned about the effect it will have on the morale,
effectiveness and retention of your key people.
-
The downturn in the economy means that
you are going to have to lay some people off
-
The introduction of new management
means leadership styles have changed
-
Your business has gone through
significant growth, and the relaxed family-style approach
now has to change into a more structured entity
-
A merger with another organisation or
department with a potentially different culture is under
consideration
-
Old ways of doing things are no longer
working, and a new approach is needed
There is one team in the organisation
that is lagging behind the rest.
They are fully equipped with the tools they need. They have
had skills training, motivational and attitudinal training
and undergone several team building interventions. And yet
…
-
They cannot relate to one another and
take even small things personally
-
There is no trust, integrity or even
respect between them
-
Competitive behaviour is unhealthy and
they cannot operate as a consolidated team
-
Performance falls short of potential
and expectations
Sound familiar? Probably. These are
just some of the issues facing most companies today.
What if there was a solution to your
dilemma? Not just any solution, but a solution that is far
reaching, measureable and best of all, sustainable.
What difference would it make if, with
new consciousness, you are able to think and behave
differently in the future?
How does it feel, as an individual or a
team, to know that changes you’re making are your changes,
your choices, which you’ve deliberately decided upon now
that you have new understandings and perspectives?
What difference does this make to your
life (work and personal) going forward? Can you see a time
and place in the future where things are running so much
more smoothly?
In situations like
those mentioned above,
Meta-Coaching will make all the difference.
MetaCo’s
Coaches are all qualified, professional Meta-Coaches, who in
addition, come from business backgrounds themselves. They
have experienced what you are going through. They
understand the challenges. Without needing to be experts in
content (the specifics of your business), they are experts
in process (how the mind works and how to drive measurable
change). They know how to work with you to obtain
outstanding, sustainable results.
Whilst
Meta-Coaching interventions are usually highly tailored to
both the individual and the organisation, the following
interventions form the framework for most Meta-Coaching programmes.

Types of Meta-Coaching
Transformational
Meta-Coaching
Transformational Meta-Coaching focuses on revolutionary change;
change to an individual or organisation’s purpose,
intention, direction and vision. Transformational
Meta-Coaching
helps the client to make changes that can result in their
changing the very direction, meaning and purpose of their
lives, business and relationship.
Transformational Meta-Coaching focuses on who you are and how you
behave. Whilst certain behaviours may have served you well
in the past, it may be that now the time has come for these
to be replaced with even more beneficial choices. Clients
create their own frameworks during the process of the
Meta-Coaching, defined by what they have identified as their
goals and the areas in their lives that they wish to change.
When a person makes changes at this level, they often
experiences the kind of paradigm shift which transforms
everything in life – who they are (developmental) and what
they do (performance).
It is a tough process, which requires discipline,
commitment, courage, the willingness to be placed in
uncomfortable situations and often confront fear.
Transformational Meta-Coaching is a journey and a process which
when embraced fully, results in extraordinary personal
growth and expansion.
Typically transformational Meta-Coaching is highly effective for
people at executive or senior management levels.
Developmental (Leadership)
Meta-Coaching
Developmental Meta-Coaching
deals with evolutionary change, therefore shifting the focus
from outside to inside, and specifically to the areas of
beliefs, understandings, decisions and other
mental-emotional frames of mind that govern performance. The
focus is first and foremost on developing the person, rather
than on behaviours. As a result, the client not only changes
what they do (performance), but who they are, or are
becoming, developmentally.
Developmental Meta-Coaching is highly effective in the following
situations:
- to prepare existing
managers and supervisors for more senior positions within
the company
- to develop individuals
which have been identified with the potential to move into
leadership positions
- for individuals such as
university graduates entering the workplace for the first
time, who wish to develop their leadership skills and
attitudes
- for team leaders and
supervisors looking to enhance their own personal
performance, as well as that of their teams
- within middle management
teams to align performance with the intentions of the
Executive Committee
Essentially, Developmental
Meta-Coaching focuses on self-actualisation, and assists the
individual to identify their innate talents and potential,
and bring these into the workplace. It prepares the
individual for ongoing career development. Where
appropriate, it can also initiate a total change.
Performance Meta-Coaching
Performance Meta-Coaching relates first and
foremost to incremental changes achieved through modifying
and learning new behaviours, skills, actions and results.
This is the Meta-Coaching that seeks most directly to take a
person’s skills to the next level in terms of quality and
quantity of performance. Performance Meta-Coaching focuses
externally on what a client does.
People moving into supervisory or management positions for
the first time, or seeking to improve their performance
within a given context, derive substantial benefit from
Performance Meta-Coaching.
Developing a Meta-Coaching Culture Throughout
all Levels of the Organisation
Meta-Coaching programmes generally prove to be popular amongst employees
as Meta-Coaching achieves a balance between fulfilling organisational goals and objectives whilst taking into
account the personal development needs of the individual. It
is a two-way relationship with both the organisation and the
employee gaining significant benefits.
Workshop-style Meta-Coaching is a highly
successful and cost-effective way of introducing a
Meta-Coaching
culture at all levels of the organisation. The MindSKILLS
Programme works exceptionally well to incentivise employees,
reward star performers and engender a culture of personal
growth and taking responsibility. See the section on
MindSKILLS for further information.
Integrated
Training/Meta-Coaching Solutions
Sometimes more than one type of intervention is necessary to
produce the best and most sustainable results.
Training is excellent for
teaching new skills and attitudes. Employees usually have
the very best intentions of fully implementing their new
knowledge into the work place at the on their return to the
office. To the best of their ability, they do this.
Sometimes however they are not sure quite how to integrate
their new knowledge into an exisiting situation. At other
times, the first time after their return that they encounter
a stressful situation, they default back to their old
behaviour. Very often, a great deal of what they learnt on
training is forgotten or disregarded within the space of a
few weeks.
Completing the training intervention with short-term
appropriate mentoring and/or Meta-Coaching interventions
afterwards ensures that the employees are able to fully
integrate their new knowledge into their specific working
environments. Mentoring interventions take place in the
workplace on a one-to-one “show-do” basis with the mentor
and the employee or team. Meta-Coaching interventions on the
other hand take place outside the workplace. Through
Meta-Coaching the employee or team is able to establish for
themselves the best means of sustainably implementing the
new knowledge into the workplace environment for the maximum
benefit .
With both interventions, new habits and skills are built,
and the full benefits of the training are measurable by both
employees and employer.
